The Guangzhou Business Centre, a commanding 375-meter-tall commercial building situated in Guangzhou, China, presented a unique and complex challenge regarding facade access. The client, Guangzhou Industry and Commerce Union Investment Limited, sought a sophisticated solution that would not only ensure 100% facade coverage but also guarantee that the Building Maintenance Units (BMUs) remained entirely concealed when not in operation and did not obstruct the building’s central apron. CoxGomyl was ultimately chosen to deliver this innovative solution, distinguishing itself from competitors due to its reputation for reliable equipment quality, highly professional on-site project teams, and comprehensive solution offerings.
To meet this requirement, CoxGomyl delivered a facade access system that achieves complete facade access coverage while remaining fully concealed during downtime. The solution comprises two telescopic mast BMUs with telescopic and luffing jibs mounted on twin tracks, each offering a 44.4-metre outreach, along with a third telescopic jib BMU under the central apron with a 10.6-metre reach. Together, these three units provide comprehensive facade access across the tower’s height and form, all while being hidden in the lower levels when not in operation.
By engineering a system that uses fewer machines without sacrificing performance, CoxGomyl successfully addressed the client’s dual priorities of aesthetics and efficiency. The integration of the equipment into the architectural form of the building ensures the facade remains visually pristine—an important consideration for this high-profile commercial tower.
Installing the system on a 375-metre tower came with a host of challenges—limited space, , the proximity to the tower crane, and unpredictable weather. These issues were met with proactive coordination, particularly with the crane team, and careful site planning to optimise the narrow installation zones. Our team’s ability to adapt to these constraints, along with its reputation for reliable equipment and comprehensive solutions, were key reasons the company was selected for the project. The experienced on-site team ensured technical precision and clear communication throughout the process.
Once operational, the GZ Business Centre’s facade access system will stand as a benchmark for innovation and integration in high-rise building maintenance.
