At CoxGomyl, we take immense pride in delivering tailored solutions for landmark projects, and the successful design and installation of a CoxGomyl Building Maintenance Unit (BMU) at 555 Collins Street in Melbourne is a shining example of our commitment to excellence.
555 Collins Street is a 35-storey office tower with two additional levels dedicated to parking and service plant rooms. The tower comprises 84,000 sqm of office space and 2,300 sqm of retail space, making it a prominent commercial hub in Melbourne’s CBD. Designed by world-renowned architectural firm Gensler in collaboration with Cox Architecture, the building emphasizes efficiency and modernity, housing major tenants such as Amazon.
Lendlease, in partnership with the building’s owners, Charter Hall Prime Office Fund (CPOF) and GIC—Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund—sought a cutting-edge, custom-designed BMU for their iconic, mixed-use building. The facade maintenance solution needed to provide safe, efficient, and discreet access for ongoing exterior cleaning while complementing the building’s modern aesthetic. The unique architectural design presented access challenges, particularly at the lower levels and on levels 10 and 13, requiring a highly flexible BMU system.
During installation, an unforeseen challenge arose when it was discovered that the depth of the roof slab was incompatible with the plinths. The CoxGomyl team quickly adapted, developing customised cast-ins that allowed the BMU installation to proceed smoothly while maintaining structural integrity.
A CoxGomyl 5000 series twin-track BMU with a soft rope system and a 15-meter telescoping jib was installed on level 35, providing maximum flexibility and facade coverage. The dual tracks allow for a greater reach, ensuring efficient maintenance across multiple building levels. The BMU system was custom-engineered to accommodate the architectural complexity of 555 Collins Street, particularly addressing the facade variations at key levels.
Key aspects of the project:
Through close collaboration between the local Alimak Group Façade Access Solutions team, CoxGomyl’s Engineering team, Lendlease, and all project stakeholders, the BMU installation was completed on time, meeting the highest standards of quality and safety. This innovative solution now provides 555 Collins Street with a reliable, long-term maintenance system, supporting its status as one of Melbourne’s most sought-after office towers.
This project serves as a testament to our ability to provide customized, high-performance vertical access solutions for some of the most prestigious clients and buildings in the world.
