88 Philips St, Sydney
88 Phillip Street Designed by internationally renowned architect Renzo Piano, 88 Phillip St is a prestigious addition to the Sydney Sky line. In keeping with such a building the BMU, believed to be the worlds biggest, was commissioned in Oct 2000. The unit consists of a 5 stage telescoping and luffing jib, fixed atop a vertically telescoping pedestal. During normal operation the jib luffs between -25 and +45 degree and utilises two independent telescoping systems for added safety. The maximum out Reach of the jib is 48 metres. Specially designed restraint systems enable the cradle to access both positively and negatively sloping faces, and the end of the jib is also fitted with a fly jib to facilitate panel replacement. Multiple slew drives are electronically monitored to match their speed. When not in use, jibs retract and luff down, and the pedestal also retracts to completely remove the unit from view.
